#DOswts393 Color Combo Inspiration Hop

Welcome back to The Handcrafting Hideaway! Today I bring you another blog hop from DO Stamping with the Stars (DOswts)!

This time we have a Color Combo Inspiration Hop. Our challenge was to create something using the Color combination of Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze, Rich Razzleberry, and Crumb.

For some reason, I was having a very hard time trying to think of something to make with this color combo! Somewhere, recently, I saw an advertisement with a pie in it and I finally came up with a Lattice Pie Card.

Next time I make this card, I will use a sponge dauber with some Crumb Cake ink just on the edges of the lattice and leaves to give the pie a baked look. I tought the sentiment from the Scary Cute stamp set was very fitting. This card was so fun to make and is perfect for the fall season were about to enter!

If only my handmade pies looked this good!

Supplies Needed:

  • Stamps:
    • Scary Cute – “Love at first bite!” sentiment
  • Cardstock:
    • Basic White – 4″ circle; 1″x2″ for sentiment
    • Crumb Cake – 8-1/2″x4-3/4″ for card base; 10 strips of 3/4″x4-1/4″ for lattice; piece(s) big enough to die cut 18 smaller leaves
  • Specialty Paper:
    • Pretty Prints DSP – 4″ circle of the Rich Razzleberry splotchy print
    • Rustic Harvest DSP
  • Ink:
    • Cajun Craze
    • Merry Merlot
  • Dies/Punches:
    • Pansy Dies
    • Banners Pick A Punch
  • Embellishments:
    • Black & White 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon
  • Tools:
    • Paper Snips
    • Paper Trimmer
    • Stampin Cut & Emboss Machine
    • Water Painters
  • Adhesives:
    • Fine-Tip Glue Pen
    • Mini Glue Dots
    • Stampin’ Dimensionals
    • Stampin’ Seal

Instructions:

  1. Cut all cardstock and die cuts.
    • Cut the cardstock pieces to the dimensions given in the supplies list above.
    • I created the card base shape by tracing the lid of a jar with a roughly 4-1/4″ opening. Then, I used a pencil and traced 2 circles next to each other using the jar lid. The circles should touch the outsode edge of the carstock and will overlap slightly in the middle. Next, I scored in the center of where the circles overlapped. Using my Paper Snips, I cut out the circular card.
    • Using the Pansy Dies, cut 18 of the smaller full leaves from Crumb Cake cardstock.
  2. Adhere pieces together.
    • Adhere the 4″ circle of Pretty Prints DSP centered on the front of the card base.
    • Adhere the 4″ circle of Basic White cardstock on the inside of the card base.
    • Weave the 10 strips of lattice together (5 strips horizontally and 5 strips vertically). Then, adhere to the front of the card over top of the DSP. Trim the excess strips to follow the same circular shape of the card.
    • Using the Fine Tip Glue Pen, adhere the leaf die cuts around the outer edge of the front of the card over top of the edge of the lattice. The leaves will overlap slightly.
  3. Stamp and color.
    • Stamp the sentiment on the 1″x2″ piece of cardstock and use the Banner Pick A Punch on either end of the sentiment.
    • With Water Painters, color 2 leaves from the Rustic Harvest DSP using Merry Merlot and Cajun Craze. Fussy cut out the leaves and adhere to the sentiment piece with the Fine Tip Glue Pen.
  4. Embellish.
    • Cut a long enough piece of Black & White 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon to tie a bow and adhere at the bottom of the watercolored leaves using a Mini Glue Dot.
    • Put dimensionals on the back of the sentiment and adhere at the bottom of the pie.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! As always, make sure to live life creatively!
